Toreen West comes from a long line of artists, jewelers and musicians.  Toreen started drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil, and began her art career as a freelance graphic artist in the early seventies.  In 1987 she began her career as a watercolorist and now she prefers the freedom and expression of oil paint. Her subjects range from portraits of people and animals to landscape and still life.  Toreen studies with well-known impressionist painter/sculptor, Corinne Hartley, her mother.   She has also studied with amazing artists including Carolyn Anderson, Peggi Kroll Roberts and John Asaro. Toreen’s commissioned portraits are in many corporate and private collections.  Her pieces have been auctioned at charity events such as the Women in Film, fetching significant contributions.  Celebrities such as John Ritter, Jason Ritter, Clayton Norcross and band members of Steppenwolf, Blues Image and Black Pearl are among the many patrons who have purchased paintings. Toreen has been a resident of Huntington Beach for over twenty years. She is the mother of a son who is a respected musician in Los Angeles and grandmother to two beautiful granddaughters whom she loves to put in her paintings frequently.  Her other passions are horses and photography.  She has been riding since before she got her first horse when she was twelve years old.  She now owns a Tennessee Walker who is in many of her paintings and photographs.  Digitally mastered photography is another art form Toreen enjoys. She has photographed and painted many of the horses and their owners in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. She has done hundreds of portraits of people and animals from all over the world.
